Chances are you have been told to stay away from animal fats if you are trying to lose weight
Things like butter, cheese and eggs are often villainized when it comes to weight loss diets and protocolsÂ
I mean it makes sense –Â
Eating fat makes you fat, does it not!?
Well, no, not really.
Let me explain.
The common conception is as follows:
Protein makes you strong
Carbs give you energyÂ
Fat makes you fat
Pretty straightforward, no?
Unfortunately, things aren’t that simple...
Let’s start with proteinÂ
Protein makes you strong,Â
No one is denying that.
Protein plays a major role in immune health, cellular repair and hormonal functionÂ
But that’s a shiur for another time so we’ll leave it out.
That leaves us with carbs and fats
Both carbs and fats are energy sources for the human body
When the body has too much of either it stores the excess as fat
Too many carbs = fat
Too much fat = fat
If the supply exceeds the demand there will be weight gain regardless of the type of ‘energy’ consumed.
Ironically fat is the most stable source of energy in the human body,
It’s easier to lose weight eating predominantly fat and protein than carbs and protein.
That’s why ketogenic diets are such an effective weight loss intervention.
It’s not the fat in it of itself that will make you fatÂ
But rather what’s eaten in combination that will determine the outcome.
What's your view on animal fats?
Are they healthy? or are they harmful?
